Mukashibanashi means ‘old story’ in Japanese. This story is taken from a series of children’s books.
さるかにばなし – A Story of a Monkey and a Crab – is, pretty much, a story about a monkey and a crab.
It’s kind of late, and I’m a bit ill; I’ve possibly had a bit too much Lemsip. Maybe that’s why this story seems quite trippy.
Apart from the eponymous monkey and crab, there are also appearances from: a hachi (bee), a konbu (kelp), an usa (a mortar or millstone) and a kuri (Japanese chestnut).
Hm. Probably time to lay off the Lemsip.
