Mukashibanashi means ‘old story’ in Japanese. This story is taken from a series of children’s books.
一休さん – Ikkyuu-san – is a series of stories based on the childhood of a historical Zen Buddhist monk.
There was a popular anime series made about the adventures of Ikkyuu-san. According to my dad, I used to watch them and love them when I was a kid growing up in Japan. I don’t really remember them that well, to be honest; and reading them now, I’m occasionally tempted to give Ikkyuu-san a clip around the ear. Which probably says more about my moral deterioration than anything else.
